Get a bountiful basket of fresh, eco-farmed produce straight from Twining Tree, every week, all through the winter! This year’s CSA or farmshare runs 1/5/12 through 4/19/12.
$30 per week ($25 per week when paid up-front, for a total of $400 for the 16-week season)* Pick up every Thursday after 5 pm from Enterprise Health Foods on Hartnell (Tentative for 2012 season)
So… a CSA is also called a farmshare or a farm subscription, and it means you sign up for a share of a farm. Each week, you get a share of that week’s harvest! In this case, you’ll get one-fifteenth of the bountiful spring-season harvest at Twining Tree farm, plus some select goodies (nuts and seasonal fruit) passed on to you from other local family farms. Everything will come from within 60 miles of Redding, and as far as I know, the Twining Tree CSA will be the only 100% local CSA in Redding this year. Sorry, no bananas or pineapples!
Here’s what was in the CSA basket on January 13th, 2010:
Head of garlic
Mandarin oranges from Orland – about 2 pounds
Green onions
bunch of Kohlrabi
Big bunch of arugula
Bunch of salad turnips
Pound of carrots, pound of sunchokes
bunch of radishes
giant Bok Choy
farm newsletter packed with recipes, tales of adventure, sound and unsound advice for living, and more recipes
All for $25 ! Not a bad deal! But please know that the above is not a guarantee. When you join any CSA, you are buying a _share_ of the farm, and you get what is available. Sometimes it’s a little meager, sometimes it’s a bonanza, and sometimes it’s a bunch of crazy esoteric veggies you’ve never even heard of before! That’s the fun of it — it’s a quirky little pie-slice of your local farm landscape. You are truly supporting your local farm, and in the process gaining a profound education in the art of eating in season in this place.
To join, please email me at twiningtreefarm@yahoo.com. I ask for a $30 nonrefundable deposit to hold your space (the CSA fills up fast!) which you can mail to me, or you can try to catch me at farmers’ market on Saturday mornings. (Be forewarned: I don’t make it to every farmers’ market!) Mail checks to Twining Tree Farm, 16395 Ridgewood Rd., Cottonwood, CA 96022. Thank you so much for checking out my CSA!
